I’m so excited to introduce you to our sweet baby girl: Savannah Jeanne <3
Savannah was born on December 1st, 2015 at 1:57pm. She weighed in at 7lbs 6oz and is 19 1/4″ long.
Her birth story:
On Monday I went in for a check up with my midwife. I was 40 weeks 3 days and at that point I was pretty convinced I was going to have to be induced. I had progressed to 3cm, but the baby was still sitting pretty high and my contractions hadn’t picked up at all. I decided that I would spend the rest of the day keeping busy with errands in hopes that it would get things moving along.
Most of the day I felt pretty crampy but chalked it up to the exam I had earlier that morning. That evening I was feeling lots of pain and pressure, but that had been happening every night for the past week, so I didn’t really think much of it. I went to bed around 10pm and fully expected the following day to be just like the last few had been. But to my surprise, I woke up to some pretty strong contractions at around midnight. I tried to fall back to sleep but it just wasn’t happening, so at around 1:30am on Tuesday morning I decided to go out to the living room and time them. At that point the contractions were coming every 8 mins, so I knew we still had time and there was no need to wake my hubby. I watched some Christmas movies and tried to close my eyes for a bit before my hubby woke around 6am. I told him that I was having contractions but didn’t think anything would be happening soon, so I decided to get up and do a few things around the house…HOLY COW! Almost immediately my contractions picked up and were coming fast and strong! I called my dad since he was first on call to watch Jase then started to get myself ready. Finally at about 8am we were ready to head to the hospital!
We arrived around 8:30am and I was just hoping I had progressed enough to stay. With Jase I was sent home the first time we went in and I was afraid this time would be the same. Luckily I was already dilated to about 7cm so I was most definitely staying!! We got checked into our room around 9am and started the long process of getting hooked up to all kinds of machines and answering all kinds of questions.
At around 10:30am, the anesthesiologist came in to give me my epidural and I was SO happy to see her! By this point my contractions were getting super strong and I was most definitely ready for it. I was checked again shortly after and was at 8cm. We spent the next couple of hours watching the Food Network and chatting to pass the time. Suddenly at around 1:30pm I felt a gush and was certain my water had just broke. Sure enough it had, and when the nurse checked me she was surprised to feel the baby’s head and noted that I was indeed at 10cm!
My midwife came in shortly after to get things preped. Then at about 1:50 she told me I could start pushing, yippee! After only 2 pushes the baby’s head was out and the midwife was able to get the rest of body out without any help from me. Immediately she was placed on my chest (something I didn’t get to do with Jase because he was so late) and I instantly fell in love <3 Tears streamed down my face as I looked into our sweet girls beautiful blue gray eyes. I can’t believe I’m finally at this point in my life. I’ve always dreamed of being a momma to two beautiful babies <3
I’m so excited to see where this life will lead us with our little ones and to watch them grow up together…nothing is better than this <3
