Make it Happen!

Today, I have a something that I’ve been wanting to share with you for quite some time. It’s taken me a while to get this down in writing, but I am SO excited to share with you my review of Make it Happen by Lara Casey!

Late last year I stumbled upon Lara Casey & her Powersheets while looking for something to help me with goal setting. After making my initial purchase and reading her blog, I knew she was someone that I wanted to learn from. She has this way of sharing her faith without making you feel judged or less than.

When I first heard about her book, Make it Happen, I knew that it was something that would make an impact in my life based off how much her blog posts have helped me. I finally had the chance to read it a few months ago and WOW!

Her story is so Captivating, Inspiring and Raw.

In her book, she shares how God has worked in her life through the darkest times, even when she thought all hope was lost. She hasn’t always had such a close relationship with God, which is why I think it resonated so deeply with me. I didn’t grow up as a Christian, but became baptised when I was 21 years old. It was a time in my life when I was in desperate need of direction but over the years my faith has become less and less. I have always believed in God, but I didn’t always trust in him…especially during my struggle with infertility.

Seeing how she was able to let go of the past and not feel like it was too late to have a relationship with Him was so inspiring to me. I’ve wanted a closer relationship with God especially after witnessing how He worked in my life during my years with HA and the birth of my miracles. But I didn’t always know how or what that might look like on a day-to-day basis.

In her book, she shows you how to Surrender Your Fear, Take the Leap & Live on Purpose…

This is something I feel I’ve been needing in so many areas of my life lately. Don’t get me wrong, I have a beautiful life that I am so incredibly grateful for, but the the fear of failure is something I’ve always struggled with. The Type A, need for control, perfectionist in me still tries to come out which drives my fear even further.

Now that I’m a mother, it’s really challenged that in me. Comparing myself to other mommas out there has the ability to keep me from living on purpose. My goal for this year is to be Present and boy has it been a work in progress!

If you have a big desire in your heart to Live on Purpose, then Make it Happen is for you…

What I love so much about Make it Happen is that it’s set up in a workbook style format. There are questions asked all throughout the book as well as action items and additional content through her website that you get access to. This really helped me to break things down into bite-sized chunks that I could take and implement right away.

Although she is a Christian and this book is very much centered around God, I truly feel it can help anyone looking to find purpose in their lives. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect:

  • Part 1: Surrendering Your Fear. This is where she teaches you how to stop chasing Perfect, meet your Fear & decide you Can.
  • Part 2: Take the Leap. In this part of the book, she focuses on Trust, Faith & leaping into what Matters.
  • Part 3: Live on Purpose. This is where you’ll learn what Success really is & how to make room for Grace.
  • Part 4: Your Guide to Make it Happen. This is where you’ll put it all together by Evaluating your life, Clearing the clutter, set Purposeful goals, take Action & Encourage others.

I truly can’t recommend this book enough and am so grateful I made the time to read it. I have a feeling it will be one that I’ll continue to come back to time and time again as seasons change and new struggles emerge.

My love for Yoga…

When I think back to the way my view on fitness has evolved, the one constant has always been my love for Yoga

In the beginning, I dabbled with some classes here and there but didn’t start to practice it on a consistent basis until I embarked on my recovery journey from Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. Going from doing intense exercise just about every day for 10 years to nothing at all was really hard for me to accept, but I knew it was necessary for a full recovery. Thankfully, after my body started to show signs that things were getting better, I was able to start adding in a few days of light Yoga without any setbacks.

Fitness 3

That’s what I love so much about it, there are so many different styles at all different levels, that it’s easy for anyone to incorporate it at any stage of life. Yoga helped keep me feeling like I was still able to fuel my love for fitness, but in a much healthier way. I’ve been able to practice throughout my recovery, during both of my pregnancies and still today.

Here are some of the many benefits Yoga can bring:

  • Mind-Body Connection
  • Stretch & Strengthen of the Muscles
  • Detoxification of the Organs
  • Increased Flexibility
  • Cardiovascular Health
  • Energizing
  • Injury Prevention

Pretty amazing right?!?!

A few months ago I was invited to join Yoga Download by the Blogger Babes network and I couldn’t be more excited to share my experience with it so far!

What is Yoga Download?

Yoga Download is an online community filled with Yoga classes of all different styles, levels and lengths. They offer free classes as well as a monthly subscription for as low as $10 a month! They also have programs for those looking for a more structure as well as online teacher training.

I’ve been incorporating it into my practice and so far have been very pleased. Here are some of the things I love most about it:

  • Classes range anywhere from 5 min to 2 hours
  • They have over 25 different styles including Prenatal, Postnatal, Barre, Pilates & Meditation
  • With over 60 Instructors you’re bound to find at least one that fits your style
  • They also offer different Intensities and Levels giving you the ability to get in your practice at any stage of life

If you’re new to Yoga or have been practicing for a while, I highly recommend giving Yoga Download a try. They offer free classes as well so you have the ability to get a feel for what they have to offer before you decide to join!

Yoga & Recovery

For my HA girls giving this a read. I know that for many of you giving up exercise has been HARD. I totally get it, but promise you it won’t always be this way. If you haven’t started to incorporate yoga yet and feel like you need to do something to keep your mind off the stress, I encourage you to give it a try.

Find a routine that is low intensity, doesn’t last longer than 30 min, brings you joy and practice it a few days a week. I can’t tell you how much it helped my mental clarity and ability to get through the hard days. Yoga will bring you so much peace from within and help to heal your mind along with your body, which I truly feel is SO important!

Finding My Purpose.

Over the last few months I’ve had this feeling that there’s something more that I’m supposed to be doing…

When I first started on my road to recovery from Hypothalamic Amenorrhea, I remember telling my mom that when I was better and became a momma myself, I would do what I could to make a difference and get the word out about HA. I wasn’t sure how I was going to do this, I just knew that I needed to.

The first step I took was to document and share my story on my first blog, Finding Jase. From there I’ve had a number of women reach out and at the time I felt I was achieving what I had set out to do and figured it was time to move on to the next chapter of my life…

Motherhood Header

Initially this blog was meant to document the new chapter of my life: Motherhood.

I also thought it would be a great place to share recipes and all things Healthy Living since those are things I truly enjoy. But over the course of the last few months, I’ve been feeling this pull on my heart. At first I wasn’t sure what it was but thought maybe it had something to do with digging deeper in the nutrition world. So, I enrolled in the Health Coach Certification course from HCI. I’m truly enjoying all that I’m learning and know that once I’m through, I will be able to provide so much value to my 1-1 clients, yet that tugging on my heart is still there…

IF & Recovery Header

It was until more recently that I’ve finally figured out what my true purpose is…

Yes, it’s to share about Healthy Living and to help others find ways to live healthier, happier lives…but deeper than that it’s to help those struggling with Infertility due to a toxic relationship with diet & exercise like I once did.

There is not nearly enough support and knowledge about Hypothalamic Amenorrhea and it truly breaks my heart. I remember how alone I felt and I want my blog to be a place where women who are struggling with HA, can come to for support & guidance. I want to create a community for these women and help get them to a place where they’re truly living life.

Along with my Healthy Living & Motherhood posts, I will be sharing more about my experiences with Hypothalamic AmenorrheaInfertility & Recovery in hopes of helping others. Later this year I also plan to create a 1-1 program designed specifically to help women with HA.

Stay strong and know that you are not alone…

DIY Lavender Body Wash from Simply Annie

Today I’m bringing you another awesome Guest Blogger, Annie from Simply Annie.

Annie is SUPER sweet, has an adorable baby girl and loves yoga like me, so I immediately knew we’d hit it off! She’s also great at making her own body care products using essential oils and was kind enough to create a special one just for you! Hope you enjoy <3

Simply Annie

Hi everyone! My name is Annie and I blog over at Simply Annie where I talk about motherhood, yoga, life and everything in between, including essential oils. I recently started making my own scrubs, lotions and facial serums so I’m excited to share one of my recipes with you today!

DIY Lavender Body Wash

I’m pretty picky when it comes to body wash, I always want something that is moisturizing, has a great scent and doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky and covered in invisible gunk like some washes can do. I also really love using a loofah and exfoliating every day. I live in Colorado so the climate here is dry and our skin takes the brunt of that. I am constantly putting on lotion and fighting a never ending battle of dry skin. So when I started to look into making my own beauty products, moisturization was a big factor for me. One of the ways I love to keep my skin soft now is through oils. There are a lot of oils out there that are meant to be used on your skin: avocado, jojoba, coconut, and almond oils to name a handful. Along with being moisturizing, avocado oil is said to remove impurities in the skin and jojoba oil helps with stretch marks. When making your own body wash you can choose whichever oil would suit your needs the most. I love making my own products, I can completely customize them to be something that is perfect for me. For this recipe I wanted something moisturizing and relaxing. I also know that Priscilla likes lavender so of course it was a perfect fit!

Ingredients Needed:

1 cup castile soap ( I chose a lavender scented one)

1 cup coconut milk

⅓ jojoba oil

2 tbsp vegetable glycerine

20 drops lavender essential oil

Glass bottle or recycled container

First measure out your castile soap and pour into your container.

Next you’ll add the coconut milk, I make sure that I stir mine because it can be a bit chunky out of the can.

Image 2

Now add your jojoba oil and vegetable glycerin.

Image 3

Top it all off with the lavender essential oil. Note that you can add as much or as little oil as you like, depending on how fragrant you like your body wash.

Now give your wash a good shake to make sure all the ingredients combine.

I use my body wash daily, either with a loofa or just in my hands. It is so cleansing and I hope you love it as much as I do!

Gratitude List from Lil Flower Momma

I’m VERY excited to bring you a Guest Post by the lovely Nicole, from Lil Flower Momma

Nicole and I met on Instagram and instantly became friends! She is SUPER sweet, has two adorable little girls and a heart of gold <3 Today Nicole is going to be sharing with you her Gratitude List, something I think we all should take the time to do!

Hi I’m Nicole a 30 something wife married to the love of my life and Momma of two little girls. We live in hot would be an understatement Phoenix, AZ. I love all things girlie, but I have a little tomboy in me too. By Tomboy I mean I love baseball and particularly the NY Mets! I own a little piece of the Internet and enjoy writing my little blog, where I like to share a little about everything, life, style and the occasional trip and recipe.

Lately I have been more grumbly than grateful.

I mean somehow the kitchen is piling with dishes and the floor scattered with crumbs and crayons ALL THE TIME! I kinda have a handle on laundry, I mean clothes are getting clean, but then the actual putting away process umm yep that reminds me I still need to get on that! So yea I’m left grumbly a lot these days and I forget about all the amazing things I am oh so grateful for.

I mean I have an amazing life really, it’s not perfect don’t think that or even easy ha then I probably wouldn’t need to be reminding myself and writing down all the things I’m grateful for.

So here’s my list of 15 things I am grateful for.

I have this great journal and there it was written on the next blank page 15 things you are grateful for and it hit me stop complaining Nicole and focus on gratitude.

  • my husband my partner in crime– Kevin is answered prayer and my soul mate. I am so grateful to be navigating through this at times difficult life with him.
  • my two beautiful daughters- My life was given new meaning from the moment we found out I was pregnant for the first time and of course the second time. This is the hardest, craziest most beautiful job on the planet!
  • my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ- I am so grateful that God called me to Himself. He saved me from myself and He has given me new life. His riches are so abundant for me that I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface.
  • my Mom- I call her my “biggest fan”, she has always been my cheerleader and has stood by me through everything in my life. We have had our head butting moments for sure no relationship is perfect, but I love my Mom and I am very grateful for her.
  • my Dad- I haven’t always been close to my Dad however I believe God has restored our relationship in such a beautiful way. I think I am a lot like my Dad and I am truly blessed. I love where our relationship is at today and I love, love watching baseball with my Dad.
  • our church- We have been blessed by both our previous church and now our current church. We have always regularly attended church each Sunday and the occasional bible study for over 15 years now.
  • Our Pastor- Again I am so grateful for the Pastors in our life. I have learned so much from each one and have grown and healed in many areas of my life.
  • a beautiful home- We still live in our first home a.k.a. the Flower casa and I will never forget the day when it became ours. Now this is not our dream home however it has always been a blessing and we have been able to live very comfortably here.
  • awesome neighbors- If we were to ever move this would be the hardest part because we have awesome neighbors! Now we don’t know if the saying is true, “you can’t pick your neighbors”, but we wouldn’t want to find out!
  • Clara’s school + teachers- We made the decision to go with a Charter school over the public school we could walk to and I am so glad we did. Clara is almost through Kindergarten and I could not have asked for a better teacher. Clara’s curriculum is tough, but her teacher has been beyond helpful getting Clara right where she needs to be.
  • a good friend- I would call this girl Charity my bestie, but I haven’t had one since Freshmen year in high school and besides my hubby is my B.F.F. Charity is one of those friends that would take a bullet for you! I have never had a friend more amazing than her. I can tell her anything and I know she is a friend for life.
  • good health- I haven’t always been good to my body and I have been down a dark path with anorexia, but God is good all the time and truly restored me and my body. I enjoy taking care of myself and making healthy choices for my family.
  • women’s bible study- I love the women at my bible study and it is so amazing the things I have learned from God’s word and from studying with other women.
  • grateful to be a WAHM- I am so grateful that I have been for the most part a WAHM. I have been at this gig for 6 years now and it is not for the faint of heart. I have probably been the best Mom and the worst Mom over the course of this time. I still think it was the right choice to spend most of my time at home with my girls. Hopefully when they grow up and reflect back they will feel the same.
  • to have all my senses- Ok this may have you like, huh? But hear me out..I can’t imagine not being able to see a sunrise or sunset or my girls smiling up at me or that gorgeous butterfly gliding by. I can’t imagine not being able to taste or feel or even hear my favorite song on the radio with my girls giggling in the back.

I am 100% grateful for these things and I am reminded of God’s creation all over again and I am oh so grateful..

What are you grateful for? I am so glad I made a list and kinda a long list because it made me feel so good to count my blessings. 🙂

Slowing Down

At the beginning of this year you may remember me talking about Lara Casey’s PowerSheets that I used for goal setting.

One of my BIG goals for this year is to “Slow Down”. This is the time in my life I’ve waited for, for far too long and I don’t want to miss out on any of the special moments that come with being a momma to little ones. They’re only this young for a very short period of time before they’re off to school to become little people of their own!

From February's Power Sheets.

From February’s Power Sheets.

I’ll admit over the past few weeks, I’ve been feeling a little overwhelmed with everything on my plate and wasn’t following through with this goal.

Between growing my online Heath Coach business, my blog, my social media following, working for my parents AND being a wife and momma, I felt like I was drowning a bit! Life felt a little chaotic at times when I would have both kids crying for my attention and work that needed to be done.

I knew that I needed to figure out a way to slow down and feel a little more organized in my life…living that way was not something I’d be able to keep up for long. Plus, it was taking the joy out of my work and that’s the last thing I wanted!

Thankfully, this week has been SO much better. I’m feeling less overwhelmed, I’m spending more time being present with my kiddos and I’m SLOWING DOWN.

One thing I’ve done differently is to get outside with my kids first thing in the morning…

Even though I rarely leave the house these days, I always felt like I needed to get my workout in and get ready for the day before I did anything else. But what this did was made me rush around all morning to make that happen verses enjoying time with my kiddos. Not good!

Taking the time to enjoy my kiddos and exercise when I can has made me feel much less stressed. And if I don’t ready until after lunch on some days, that’s ok too! Seeing the look of joy on my kiddos faces is worth far more than anything else <3

Savannah enjoying the fresh air <3

Savannah enjoying the fresh air <3

Another thing I’ve done is to limit my screen time…

Social media (especially IG for me) can suck you in and eat up 30 min in a flash! I hate being glued to my phone, it was part of why I felt overwhelmed. Trying to keep up with all the posts made me feel a little frazzled. I’ve decided that I will spend 10 min mid-morning & mid-afternoon to scroll through and see what’s going on with the people I follow.

This is a big part of growing my online Health Coach business, so it’s not something I can give up completely…I just needed to figure out a way to do it so it wasn’t all consuming. I always felt like I needed to scroll all the way through until I got to where I left off, but that’s not always going to be possible. Limiting my time will allow me to slow down and be present with my kids, get things done around the house or focus on a little me time.

Life is too short to live it in chaos…

Slow down and enjoy the moments you have with your loved ones, they will be some of the most precious moments of your life <3 Work and household duties will always be there, they have a time and place for your attention…THIS is something I always need to remember!

Are you feeling overwhelmed trying to keep up with everything? What are some ways you slow down and enjoy the moments? I’d love to know in the comments below!

My Goals & Dreams For 2016

This is the first year that I can remember feeling really excited for what’s in store. I think part of it has to do with the completion of our family and another part has to do with the new journey I’m on as a Health Coach…

A few weeks back I was looking for something to help keep me organized for the upcoming year. Between being a stay at home momma, working from home for my parents business, taking care of our house, focusing on my relationship with my hubby and building my Health Coach business, I knew that if I didn’t get organized, most or all of those areas would suffer. Luckily I stumbled upon Lara Casey’s Powersheets {affiliate link} and they were EXACTLY what I had been searching for! Lara not only has the sweetest heart, but is also an expert at goal setting and most importantly the follow through.

Her Powersheets have you dig deep to really find out what it is that you want to achieve in your life. She encourages you to dream big and explore all aspects of your life. She also has you write out what didn’t work in the prior year and what areas need cultivating. Through each Powersheet, you start to uncover more and more until you finally get to the core of what your dreams & goals are. Each month you have tasks and activities that you put in place on a daily, weekly & monthly level to enable you to take the steps necessary to reach your goals. She also does a refresh every quarter so that you can reevaluate your goals and make sure you’re making progress.

As I uncovered my goals, I found there were four main areas that I really want to focus on this year: 1) My hubby 2) My kids 3) Myself 4) My Calling. For each area I put in place tasks that will help me to grow and cultivate each of these so that in a year from now I can look back with no regrets. Here are just a few of the tasks I’m going to do each day, week, month to ensure that I achieve my goals.

  1. My Hubby

    1. Go on monthly date nights
    2. Have quality time each night to catch up and talk after the kids go to bed
    3. Go on 1-2 overnight trips just the two of us
  2. My Kids

    1. Plan 1-2 new activities/adventures each month
    2. Read to them most nights/days
    3. Limit the amount of time I’m on social media when they’re awake, BE PRESENT
  3. Myself

    1. Practice Yoga/Pilates 3-5 days a week
    2. Continue to fuel my body with healthy real foods & listen to what my body needs
    3. Spa day or hair appointment every other month
  4. My Calling

    1. Continue to grow my community and provide support
    2. Launch my 1-1 coaching program later this fall
    3. Bring worth and stay true to myself and what I envision

My dream for this year is to be able to look back with joy knowing that I was able to give my all to my kids and hubby. I want to know that I was present with them and made long lasting memories. I also want to share my passion for living healthy and hope to inspire others to do the same. I want to make a difference!

If you tend to set goals but fall short of achieving them, I highly recommend looking into purchasing Powersheets (currently sold out but will be available again in the spring), they’re amazing! You can also catch Lara’s 2016 Goal Setting series on her blog. It’s totally free and very in depth.

I hope this inspires you to dream big and decide what areas in your life you want to grow and cultivate. Let’s make 2016 our best year yet!!
